High-resolution soil temperature sensing system in Alaska

Donatella Zona (University of Sheffield) and Walter Oechel (University of Exeter) will install thermocouples in several sites in Alaska to measure high-resolution soil temperature profiles. Data will be collected at 5 cm intervals and every second which will enable continuous measurement of water table and thaw depth. These measurements will then be used to explain the temporal variability in the greenhouse gas emissions. The graduate students Kyle Arndt, Josh Hashemi and Azeem Rahman will participate in the field work.
