Seismometers in Longyearbyen - community-based observing
Primary tabs
Two small seismometers were deployed in Longyearbyen by UiB GEO. The seismometers, of type Raspberry Shake, can measure earth movements at the millimeter level or less. The instrument provide us with important information about movements in the subsoil that may be caused by, for example, earthquakes or landslides.
The deployment is a part of WP4 which is focused on community-based observing systems and therefore it is seen as an opportunity to involve local organizations in the surveillance and make data available to people in Longyearbyen. The deployment was done in two locations where power and network connection are available to forward information as a real-time continuous stream of seismic data to the Raspberry Shake Data Center which is available through https://raspberryshake.net/stationview/#
