MARIS-INTAROS meeting at NERSC

The purpose of meeting was to present the status of the work in the MARIS project, which is the Chinese matching project to INTAROS. The meeting was attended by three persons from NMEFC (Lin Zhang, Lu Zhanga and Xi Liang) and one from RADI (Yubao Qiu) and several from NERSC. The meeting discussed the WP2 questionnaire, the follow-up project "Arctic Mapping" and how the Chinese partners can particpate in this work. Also data sharing with the MARIS project was agreed, where examples of MARIS data should be registered in the INTAROS data catalogue and be made available for downloading by other INTAROS partners, using machine-to-machine interaction. Furthermore, there will be cooperation between NMEFC and NERSC in INTAROS WP6.3 related to sea ice information for Arctic shipping. Activities should address 1) prepare sea ice statistics for the last 10 years or so, which includes thickness from NMEFC model, NorCPM, TOPAZ, etc., 2) compare models used for short term forecasting (NMEFC, TOPAZ) and propose how to present and disseminate model forecasts to ships, and 3) how can we present seasonal ice forecasts to Arctic shipping stakeholders.

A brief summary of the meeting is attached.
